February 2017 - Asnuntuck Community College's Advanced Manufacturing Center is the national model for the future of manufacturing education. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, a strong proponent of workforce education, toured this new 27,000 square foot building, which, beginning in June, will be training program graduates for immediate $60-70K/year in private aerospace and defense manufacturing. Downes worked closely with the College to plan for the intricacies of this type of facility and our work included: Coordination of overhead systems with machines due to their height

  • Sequencing of machinery moves due to their size and weight
  • Integration of a standard production and a teaching layout while maximizing teaching stations
  • Critical materials selections for cleanliness and minimal damage
  • Adaptable bus duct system allows for machine utility feed modification
  • Importance of lighting
  • Working with the program director to adapt the program to state-of-the-art machines responding to private market need
